Why The Only Thing Stopping You is You

Life is challenging sometimes isn’t it?

Have you ever been in a situation where you know that you are quite capable of doing something, but in your head, you feel that you just can’t do it?

It isn’t that difficult and others have shown you that it really is possible, but no you just can’t do it. You really can’t.

They say don’t they, that there is no such word as can’t.

A can’t do attitude will always stop us from achieving the things that we want to do.

I had to battle with my can’t do attitude last week when I was lucky enough to be able to be part of an Outward Bound Course.

Better than we know

Doing the week, I faced many personal challenges and had ample opportunity to genuinely believe that I couldn’t do something.

One of those challenges was to jump off a small ledge in a cliff face into a lake.  The ledge wasn’t that high above the water, but just standing there seemed to make it higher.

I knew really that I could do it, but as I stood there something seemed to stop me. An invisible force that was preventing me from achieving my goal of landing in the water. The ledge seemed to get higher and the water further away.

I could have let it stop me, but I am pleased to report that I didn’t. I told myself that I could and I did jump into that water.

In the end, it is you that has to believe in you. As Kurt Hahn said, we are all better than we know. We just need not to let us stop ourselves from achieving our dreams

  1. Hey Jo,

Wow, you jumped off a cliff into the water? I’m sure if you had any type of fear about doing that then it was very hard to do but since you did it, congratulations.

There are a few things I refuse to do. Sure, I’m capable of them but I have no desire whatsoever to do any of them so I won’t. One of them is going skydiving. Something I have absolutely no desire to do, why jump out of a perfectly good airplane right!

So there are some things that I’m definitely capable of doing but never will. Other things I’ve definitely had to get outside my comfort zone and just do it anyway. I’m glad I did too, I’m sure you have felt the same way.

Thanks for sharing this with us and here is to many more things that you refuse to let stop you.

    Have a great week.

    1. Hi Adrienne,

I am not sure I want to go skydiving either. It is not because I fear it, but like you I have no real interest in doing it.

Jumping off that cliff did present me with real fear. I really didn’t want to do it, but I knew I had to because if I didn’t I knew I would I end up regretting it. I would regret wasting the chance to push myself and would have wasted the opportunity to grow.

Life can give us so many opportunities if we let it. We just need to make sure that we don’t waste them by telling ourselves that we are not worthy of the challenge.

Thank you for commenting and sharing your thoughts

      Have a great week yourself.

      Jo
